About this place
A neighborhood fixture in the residential quarters of Nishiarai, Adachi Ward, Mikaku is an izakaya built around fragrant charcoal skewers and an extensive lineup of small plates. Opening its doors at 16:30 in the evening, it caters equally well to a relaxed dinner or a casual drink after work.
The signature charcoal-grilled skewers are the natural place to start, spanning both motsuyaki offal cuts and classic yakitori chicken. Options include salt-seasoned liver, flavorful kashira (pork temple), tender cartilage, and shiro (intestine) glazed with savory sauce, allowing diners to assemble a platter according to personal preference. The broader kitchen repertoire extends to simmered beef offal with tofu (gyu-motsu nikomi dofu), charcoal-broiled eel kabayaki, and fresh seafood selections such as sardine sashimi and minced horse mackerel tataki.
Old-school drinking snacks bring a nostalgic tavern feel to the table, including vintage red-edged ham cutlets, gratin croquettes made with hanpen fish cake, and stir-fried liver with garlic chives. Paired with draft beer, Hoppy, or shochu chuhai, the spread offers an unpretentious pub evening.
The dining room accommodates solo diners at the counter as well as small groups across traditional tatami seating. Mikaku accepts advance seat reservations and takeout orders, and cashless payment via PayPay is supported.
